Harmonization with
the natural landscape

The parcel in question is located out of the city's limits, in the Kallithea - Nea Hili suburbs, with an acreage of about 5 stremmata, sloping from the west to the east.

The present study concerns the construction of a ground-level house with a basement. Our goal was to create a building that would blend in with the surrounding nature but at the same time make the best use of the unhampered view. The result would be a functional residence that would feature distinct but cohesive spaces.

Unobstructed views and natural lighting

The building's layout is comprised of two rectangular masses, each one with a different aspect, that are merged into each other.

The part that houses the bedrooms is placed on the east side of the building along the contour lines of the ground, following its natural tilt, while the part that houses the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room is placed almost perpendicularly to the first part. It rises above the natural ground level to become coplanar to the first part of the building and offers an unobstructed view.

Facing the entrance, which is located on the north side of the building, a cove was created in the building to further illuminate the interior through openings.

A cement pergola with aluminum louvers was designed to be placed in the outdoor space in front of the living room, intended to provide shading during the summer months and increased solar input during the wintertime. The basement is used as a storage room and it also houses the electricity installations.

In order to ensure increased energy efficiency, 10 cm thick external heat insulation was applied to the walls and ceiling, while we also opted for aluminum thermal shut-off frames with triple glass panes, a heat pump with underfloor heating, and a solar boiler.
